Zoning
Zoning and Land Use in Our City
Zoning and land use regulations are tools the City uses to guide how property can be developed or used. These rules help make sure neighborhoods grow in a safe, organized, and compatible way.
Zoning?
Zoning divides the City into different districts, such as residential, commercial, industrial, or agricultural, and lists specific regulations about what types of buildings and uses are allowed. For example, homes are typically built in residential zones, while businesses operate in commercial zones. Zoning also covers things like building height, lot size, parking, and landscaping to ensure new projects fit the character of the area.
To search what zone your property or a parcel is within, you may utilize the Public Viewer.
Land uses are allowed through several methods. The zoning regulations are included in the Development Code. These regulations describe permitted uses as well as those uses which require land use application approvals, such as:
- Site Plan Reviews
- Conditional Use Permits
- Public Facility Reviews
- Tentative Maps
To initiate a land use action, please obtain the applicable checklist and the Land Use Action Application online.
