Proceed During a Water Shutdown

Scheduled Shutdowns
At times it is necessary to schedule a water shutdown to complete water system improvements and repairs in your immediate area. Occasionally, water lines may need to be shut off due to a service line break or other emergency repair.

Emergency Shutdowns
The Water District and Public Works Department will make every effort to notify areas affected by a shutdown in advance, but of course in the case of a sudden emergency notification may not be possible. It is always recommended that households maintain a backup water supply in the event of a shutdown or any unexpected situation.

The City of Hesperia recommends that you keep a three to five day supply of water on-hand, for both drinking and sanitation, in the event of an emergency that disrupts water delivery. On average, you will need one gallon of water per person per day, plus extra for pet. To view more emergency tips visit the City's Emergency Preparedness Program.

Restoring Service After a Shutdown
When your water service is restored, it is best to run an exterior water faucet until your water runs clear. Sometimes sediment is stirred up during this necessary maintenance and this will aid in the prevention of dirty water entering your interior plumbing. Usually this can be completed in just a few minutes by running a garden hose.

If you experience problems after your water is restored please call the Water District at (760) 947-1840.
