Controlling the Pet Population

Responsibility Starts With You

It is the responsibility of the pet owner to assure pets are restricted to the owner’s property. The Hesperia Municipal Code pertaining to the control of animals reads: No person owning or having control of any animal shall permit such animal to stray or run at large upon any of the following areas:

  • Public streets
  • Public sidewalks
  • School grounds
  • Public parks
  • Playgrounds
  • Places of public assembly
  • Any other public place
  • Any unenclosed private lot or other unenclosed private place
  • Any private place or property without the consent of the owner or person in control thereof

Parkways comprising the area between the street and sidewalk shall be included as private property for purposes of this section.

If your animal is impounded without a license, you may be charged substantial fees for the return of your animal and your pet will be neutered if unaltered. You may also receive a citation and pay substantial fines to the court. You are responsible for any damage to property or any injury to humans or other animals caused by your animal while it is off of your property.
